Hướng Việt Performing Arts Group focuses on the musical techniques and traditions of our ancestors. The classical songs are difficult to learn and master, requiring students to be patient and diligent while learning them. The classical techniques are different from that of majority of artists nowadays whom skills heavily emphasizing on running notes and tremolos of the right hand, performing in styles strongly influenced by the Chinese. This style is simpler, easier to learn, hence favored by many students, but not representative of Vietnamese traditional music. Teachers of Huong Viet are trained by master artists of the 3 music regions of Vietnam who live in the South, where musical traditions have not been influenced by the Chinese. Hence, our styles, techniques, and songs while difficult to master, are uniquely Vietnamese, and we are proud to be Vietnamese.

Đoàn Văn Nghệ Dân Tộc Hướng Việt chú trọng đến kỷ thuật và bài bản âm nhạc truyền thống Việt Nam. Các kỷ thuật và bài bản này khó học và đòi hỏi học viên phải chuyên cần tập luyện. Khác với đa số các nghệ sĩ ngày nay khi âm nhạc truyền thống VN chỉ chú trọng về kỷ thuật chạy ngón của tay phải và phong cách biểu diễn ảnh hưởng từ nhạc Trung Quốc. Lối học này đơn giản, dễ học, nên được các học sinh ưa chuộng, tuy nhiên, đây không còn là âm nhạc truyền thống VN nữa. Các giáo viên của Hướng Việt được đào tạo bởi các giáo sư chuyên về âm nhạc của ba miền đất nước ở miền Nam nên kỷ thuật, ngón đàn và bài bản chúng tôi sử dụng và truyền bá đúng theo phong cách của âm nhạc cổ truyền Việt Nam, không bị lai căn, mất gốc, không ảnh hưởng âm nhạc Trung Quốc hoặc các quốc gia nào. Chúng tôi tự hào mình là người Việt Nam.

Để tham gia lớp nhạc của Đoàn Văn Nghệ Dân Tộc Hướng, xin vui lòng điền đơn nhập học dưới đây và gửi về theo địa chỉ trong thư. Sau khi nhận được đơn nhập học, chúng tôi sẽ mời học viên và gia đình cho một buổi phỏng vấn. Nếu học sinh đủ điều kiện tham gia, thư nhập học sẽ được gửi cho học sinh trong một tuần sau khi phỏng vấn. Lưu ý: chúng tôi chỉ nhận đào tạo các học sinh nào thật sự muốn học về nhạc dân tộc, và chúng tôi sẽ có trách nhiệm đào tạo học sinh đến khi thành tài. Chúng tôi thu nhận tất cả học sinh không phân biệt chủng tộc, sắc tộc, hoặc tuổi tác.

To participate in Huong Viet Performing Arts Group music classes, please fill out the form below and send to the address in the form. Once we receive your application, we will invite you and your family for an interview. If you are qualified, an acceptance letter will be send to you within one week. Please note, we only accept student who really want to learn Vietnamese traditional music and we will responsible to train you until you graduate. We accept students of all ethnic backgrounds, all ages.

Huong Viet Performing Arts Group offer variety of Vietnamese traditional music and arts classes such as

Dan Tranh - Vietnamese zither
Dan Bau - monochord
Tam Thap Luc - Vietnamese dulcimer
Ty Ba - Pearl-shaped lute
Nhi (two strings fiddle)
Nguyet - Moon lute
T'rung (bamboo instrument)
Drum
Traditional Dance Classes for children, adult, and senior
Brush painting (landscape and flowers)
Vietnamese brush calligraphy

Private music and painting lessons:

Students schedule his/her own lesson with the instructors.
Each class runs for 30 minutes during weekdays.
Tuition: depends on group or private lessons.
All tuitions are donated to Huong Viet scholarship fund. Our teachers do not receive any compensation for volunteer times.
